Oxford Capital was initially founded as a platform to take advantage of what John and a partner felt was a compelling secular arbitrage opportunity resulting from the dramatic overbuilding in the nation’s property markets, particularly the lodging sector, in the early to mid-1990’s. Since that time, in four major contrarian buying waves, starting during the RTC crisis in the early 90’s, again after the dotcom bubble burst / September 11; during/after the Global Financial Crisis of 2008/2009; and during the Covid crisis and its aftermath spanning 2020 thru present, Oxford has participated in approximately $4B+ of real estate projects, with a primary focus on hospitality (16,000+ hotel rooms) and hospitality anchored mixed use projects including multifamily (2,000+ units), retail, parking, senior housing (approximately 4,000+ units) and other operationally intensive forms of real estate. Oxford led transactions have generated in excess of $1.5B of profits for its principals and investors across four distinct real estate-lodging cycles since the early 1990’s.

Oxford also has a growing national collection of lifestyle hospitality brands. These include About Last Knife (ALK), Audrey, Fiona, Garrett, Godfrey, Griffon, I|O Rooftop, Julian, King George, Le Meridien Essex Chicago, LH Rooftop, LondonHouse, Ruka, Hotel Los Gatos, Porter, SoMa House, Spa Boutique, Thompson (Chicago), Versey and Vertigo. Though most of Oxford’s recent projects have been “pure play” independents and/or independents with “soft brand” affiliations with some of the major chains, it has also developed, owned and/or managed “hard branded” assets affiliated with nearly all the major international chains including Carlson/Radisson, Choice, Hilton, Hyatt, IHG, Langham, Marriott, Starwood, Wyndham, etc.
